Ⅰ. Teaching aims and demands

2. Learn the modals for necessity: must, must not
3. Form good living habits.
Ⅱ.teaching procedure
Step 1 Review (7 minutes)
1. Show the living habits on the PowerPoint and let students choose which are good living habits
which are not
2. review last lesson through greeting (T: How are you feeling today? Ss: Very well, thanks. T: I’m glad to hear that. I think health is very important. Do you think so, class? Ss: Yes. T: What is good
for your health, S1?S1: Washing hands before meals. Going to bed early. Doing morning exercises. S2: Brushing teeth
twice a day….)
3. Show some pictures of bad habits and the last picture with a man smoking at the hospital
4. Lead to the new lesson through the last picture(T: Is smoking good or bad? Ss: Bad! T: Oh, smoking is bad for our health. Why is it bad? Today
we will learn a dialog, then we can get the answer from it. )
5. Let students read 1a and find the new words, guessing the meaning (article, smoke, cause, cancer,
give up)
6. Let students make sentences after they know those words’ meaning
Step 2 Presentation (10minutes)
Give students tasks before listening 1a (e.g. T: Listen to 1a and answer the following questions.)(1.Is smoking good or bad for his health? 2.What may smoking cause?)
check answers
3. play the tape of 1a again, and let students answer questions (T: Please listen to 1a again, and find out
the answers.1.Does Maria’s father smoke? 2. What does her father think of smoking? 3.Which part of our body is smoking bad for?)
4. Check answers
5. Let students read after the tape and write the key words and phrases down.(T: Now, please read it again. Then find out the key words or phrases in this dialog.)
6. write the key words and phrases on the blackboard (read in the sun, article, smoking, relax, be bad
for health, teeth, yellow, cough, say, lung, cancer, terrible, ask, give up)
7. Read 1a again and let students find the main sentence patterns and write them on the blackboard.
(ask sb. to do sth. ask sb. not to do sth. must do sth. give up doing sth….)
Step 3 Practice (10 minutes)
1. show the pictures of 2 to lead in to 2 by retelling the good habits of 1b (T: From 1b, we know
some good habits, such as doing morning exercises, brushing your teeth twice a day, washing your
hands before meals. What about other healthy habits? Now let’s look at the pictures….)
2. Present the new words(energy,necessary, enough) during explaining the pictures (T: What’s the boy doing?Ss: He’s having breakfast. T:Right. Breakfast gives us energy for the morning.)
3. Play the tape of 2, and let students read after it.
4. Let students retell 2 by looking at the pictures group by group and choose one group who do the
best job.
5. Let students finish 3
Step 4 Project (10 minutes)
1. Let students write down the regulations in class on a paper(T: Now, please take out a piece of paper. Write down the regulations in our class.)
